QuickSight Visuals - Tables
To continue our AWS Analytics Series, we are going to release a multiple videos focusing on some of the visuals available in QuickSight. To ensure you are capitalizing on all of the features and functionalities available, Dylan will begin by discussing how to best utilize Table visuals.
Hello, I'm Dylan, a cloud developer at West Loop Strategy, an AWS partner. As part of a learning series for QuickSight Dashboard visuals, today, we are going to discuss the features and functionalities available for tables.
While there are many visual templates at your disposal, everything often boils down to providing a sample of all the meaningful data into a single table that can be filtered through and even exported by the reader into a format of their choice, like Excel or CS V. Now, what do these tables do? One of the newest features added into QuickSight allows tables to function similarly to Excel by freezing certain columns to always display as you scroll through a larger table. You can also hide specific columns to not display in the visualization. This is a feature you would utilize if you either want to improve the display of your table on the sheet while still providing access to the columns, or if the user decides to export the table or you need a certain column in the table to ensure a calculated field is aggregated properly, but you don't want it to display.
A good example of this would be adding a customer ID to your table to make sure there's a row for each distinct customer then hiding it from view to manage the display. You can also click this arrow button to move a column to a new location in the table without tediously adjusting the order within your field wells. Once your table is set up how you want, you can apply styling and conditional formatting. Rather than displaying a column that shows ones and zeros or true and false, you can display green check marks and red X's. Once done, select this check box to ensure the values returned from your field don't display and just the icons are shown.
