Hello, I'm Dylan, a cloud developer at West Loop Strategy, an AWS partner. As part of our AWS Analytics Expert Series, we are going to discuss how to set up your datasets to be easily utilized within QuickSight.
Through my personal experience, there are often scenarios where I'll try to force a visual to display data in certain categories or groupings without creating a new dataset. Sometimes it requires multiple complex calculated fields, a ton of testing and comparing the results to queries I am making directly from the datasource. Eventually it gets to a point where taking the time to create a new view or dataset is far simpler and will allow you to create far more meaningful visuals in your dashboard. The most important thing to remember is if you want to compare categories, they should have a single column. If we want to build visuals that have impactful information about product sales across various stores, then our product should have a single product type field that will be connected to individual stores.
